Road Course Improvement to Start this Winter

January 31, 2019

(KENT, Wash) – Repaving on Pacific Raceways’ historic road course is set for the next 45 days, according to track officials. More than one mile of the 2.25-mile track is scheduled for new asphalt, said Jason Fiorito, raceway president. “We will be repaving from the exit of Turn 2 to Turn 7 and are looking for a weather window in the next month or so,” said Fiorito. The track recently signed an agreement with Miles Resources of Puyallup to do the work. “Our project team at Miles Resources, from ownership to operations, is excited to be working with Pacific Raceways on its road course improvements,” said Jeff Williams, project manager. “We pave everything from major freeways to sports courts, but there is a little extra buzz on our team about the raceway project. We will be utilizing the latest, cutting edge technical knowledge and equipment, and can’t wait to present the finished product to the racing community.” In addition to the repaving, the project will include replacing the old curbing with FIA-approved turn curbs that will help racers on the technical lower section of the road course. The raceway has been working with Motorsports Consulting Services of Phoenix and its... View Article

CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals Friday Notebook

October 4, 2018

FEATURES As the sponsored Top Fuel car of event sponsor CatSpot, Scott Palmer has a little extra weight on his shoulders. He’s been there before, back when O’Reilly was his car sponsor and also sponsored a handful of NHRA national events, but this time feels very different to him. “Back then, we were just a car in the staging lanes, not a competitive car, and I don’t think a lot of people expected much from us,” he said. “Now we’re a top 10 car and that means we need to run like one. “I’ve struggled a little bit with my lights and part of that is in my head. Steve and Billy Torrence have been helping me a lot with my driving. You’ve gotta remember, I’m a guy who’s raced in defense my whole life. Racing offensively takes a different mindset and I’m going to figure it out. We’ve got a car that runs strong and it’s time for me to step up.” Palmer, who made the Countdown to the Championship last season, sits eighth right now with three events to go, and as good as he’s running, he’s not taking anything for granted. “I feel good but it’s not... CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals Saturday Notebook

October 4, 2018

FEATURES As hard as it is to believe, it was at this race a year ago that three-time Top Fuel champ Antron Brownlast visited the winner’s circle. This season’s pursuit has been hampered as the team shifted around responsibilities following the winter departure of crew chief Brian Corradi, and a runner-up a few races ago in Epping has certainly given the Matco Tools team a boost. “We know a win’s just around the corner,” said Brown, who also won this race in 2016 and 2009. “We’re just one tab off here, one tab off there, but we’re getting all those dots aligned and pretty soon I think we’re going to go across that finish line and pull off a win. It’s been a challenging season and, for me, it’s making me a lot better, our team’s getting better, we’re all getting better together. I want to win so bad. “The Countdown is coming and I see that we are going to peak at the right time. People don’t realize that we’re far from being a new team, but we’ve moved a lot of people on the team around at the beginning of the season. So I’m proud of where we’re at... View Article

CatSpot NHRA Northwest Nationals Sunday Notebook

October 4, 2018

PRE-RACE FEATURES Top Fuel points leader Steve Torrence hasn’t had many hiccups in his breakaway season, but the talented Texan says he will have  his mental game squared away today after red-lighting in the first round against Doug Kalitta last weekend in Sonoma. It was his first red-light since the 2013 Brainerd event and didn’t cost him his point lead –- and not much probably can –- but it still needs to be addressed. “There’s no way to put lipstick on that one and making it look any better,” he said. “Sometimes you just make mistakes. It was a long Tree. I knew that when I hit the gas it was a crapshoot because I saw the light coming on as my foot was going down and maybe that I just caught it, that I met it coming on. I’ve driven these things long enough to just throw that out the window. The guys were super supportive and, in the end of he day we weren’t going to win that round anyway. We went .77 and Kalitta went .74; he was .060 on the Tree so I’d have had to been .030 or better to even have a shot. “They say if... View Article
