2020 NHRA NW Nats Update

June 25, 2020 Published by
Due to COVID-19 restrictions in King County and Washington state, we will be unable to host this year’s 2020 Flav R Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals that was originally scheduled for July 31 – Aug. 2.

As you may know, Gov. Jay Inslee’s office instituted a four phased approach to re-opening the state leaving it up to each county to determine when to apply to move to the next phase of his re-opening plan. In order to host large crowds, we need to reach Phase 4. As of June 25, 2020, King County is in Phase 2 and with the time required before moving into subsequent phases, we have been told by county and state officials that it is not possible to get to Phase 4 prior to the race.

This is a big blow to our track. As a small, family-owned business, not being able to open for the NW Nationals and other spectator events this summer is a financial hardship. Many of you know that we work on this event for the entire year. It’s a big commitment for our business and requires expenditures through-out the 12 months leading up to race weekend.

Adding to the disappointment is that we are celebrating our 60th year as a racetrack and planned to honor our heritage at the race this summer. The inability to host this year’s race breaks a string of 32 years of having the NHRA national event at The Place to Race – something we were quite proud of. Like you, we are race fans and enjoy the excitement each summer of big time NHRA Mello Yello drag racing.

As hard as it is to make this announcement, the bright side is that we will be back next year and want to see you back as we celebrate the 33rd Annual Flav R Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals.

For our advance ticket holders and premier customers, we have two options available regarding your 2020 ticket purchase:

Option 1 — Rollover your 2020 tickets to next year’s race and get your same great seats with no additional cost. If you qualified for VIP or Preferred Parking this year, we will honor that for next year’s race.

Option 2 — Receive a refund for your 2020 tickets. We will be issuing refunds as funds become available. If refunded, reserve seat customers will not be guaranteed their same great seats for next year’s race and will have to pay any ticket price increases or any additional fees.

As submissions are received, it is our goal to communicate with customers as quickly as possible. Please allow us two weeks to be back in touch with you regarding next steps. We are working with the NHRA to confirm our 2021 race date as soon as possible and we will pass that information to you as well.

We sorry that we couldn’t make the 2020 Northwest Nats a reality; the entire staff at Pacific Raceways was looking forward to seeing you and all of our NHRA fans and to watch exciting Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and for the first time ever at The Place to Race Pro Stock Motorcycle racing.

Thank you for your continued support of the NHRA and Pacific Raceways and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s race. In the meantime, stay healthy and safe!

Sincerely,
John Ramsey
