SUMMARY:NW Alfa Romeo Club - Twilight Lapping
DESCRIPTION:NW Alfa Romeo Club – Twilight Lapping at Pacific Raceways\n\n\n\nThe Northwest Alfa Romeo Club has been providing safe and fun High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) events to club members\, non-members\, family and friends\, and the car enthusiast community in the Pacific Northwest for over 30 years. \n\n\n\nOn Wednesday\, May 13th we invite all our sport driving friends to join us for an afternoon of spirited driving\, camaraderie\, and good times. This is a late afternoon HPDE event being held at Pacific Raceways in Kent\, WA. This is an open lapping format designed to provide club members and non-member guests the thrill of driving their beloved Alfa Romeos and all other vehicle types in a “spirited” manner on a closed road course. This event is open to all experienced drivers regardless of membership affiliation with NWARC or any other regional car clubs\, and an NWARC membership is NOT required. A 1-day temporary AROC membership is included in the registration cost for non-members for this individual event\, and you are of course welcome to join NWARC (AROC) and enjoy the annual membership benefits if you desire: https://www.aroc-usa.org/membership/ \n\n\n\nPrevious sport (track) driving and HPDE experience is required as a prerequisite for this event. It is critical that you have verifiable credentials from NWARC\, Proformance Racing School\, or any other reputable car club/organization for “solo driving” in either Low Intermediate\, Intermediate\, or Advanced run groups. At a minimum you must have solo sign off at Pacific Raceways. If you are not sure whether your current experience level qualifies you for this event or you have on-track experience that is not documented here on Motorsportreg.com\, please do not hesitate to contact the Event Registrar .  \n\n\n\n\nCheck-in:  Begins at 4:00pm\n\n\n\nMandatory Drivers Meeting: 4:40pm\n\n\n\nOpen track:  5pm – 9pm or dusk\, whichever is first\n\n\n\nRegistration Fee:  $250 per driver\n\n\n\nEach entry includes a voucher for a meal at track concessions. \n\n\n\n\nPlease be sure your vehicle is in good mechanical condition\, with no visible fluid leaks or loose parts hanging from exterior or underneath the vehicle. Check your tire wear and tire pressure the day before the event. Check engine oil and coolant levels\, and fill all reservoirs if necessary. Ensure you have at least half thickness on your brake pads and your brake fluid is up to task. All vehicles will be subjected to a basic technical inspection before being allowed on track. Please remove all loose items from the interior of your vehicle prior to arriving. \n\n\n\nIf you have questions about any needed service to your vehicle in preparation for this event please visit one of our local partner shops. In the Seattle area please visit our friends at PROVA Motorsports. In the South end please visit Bristow’s Exclusive Auto Repair in Tacoma. Each of these shops is owned by long time NWARC instructors. \n\n\n\nInsurance for your vehicle can be purchased through Hagerty’s HPDE Track Day Insurance: hagerty.com/hpde \n\n\n\nEvent requirements\n\n\n\n**CONVERTIBLES** Please read carefuly as this is a change in NWARC policy; Convertibles MUST have aftermarket roll protection. We can no longer allow convertibles without\, at a minimum\, an aftermarket roll bar which passes the broomstick test. Factory roll hoops are no longer acceptable. Targa type vehicles will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Event Registrar if you have questions regarding a convertible or targa vehicle. \n\n\n\n**PASSENGERS** Please read carefuly as this is a change in NWARC policy; With the exception of NWARC registered instructors passengers are NO LONGER PERMITTED at NWARC events. This applies to all run groups. \n\n\n\nThis event is open to all drivers\, 18-years and older with valid drivers license and verifiable “solo” sign off at Pacific Raceways from NWARC or other reputable car club or HPDE organizations. \n\n\n\n*NOTE: You must show your valid drivers license at check-in and before driving on the track (no photo copies\, no exceptions).  \n\n\n\nMore on Sport Driving: \n\n\n\nExperienced DriversYou are considered an “experienced driver” if you have participated in HPDE (High Performance Drive Education) or open lapping events in either the Advanced or Intermediate run group with NWARC\, Proformance Racing School\, or other reputable car clubs at Pacific Raceways. You must also have participated in at least two HPDE events at Pacific within the past two years. If you have not been on track in more than two years please contact the Event Registrar to discuss options. \n\n\n\nDrivers with at least two SOLO events on record at Pacific Raceways and moderate track experience are considered Intermediate. \n\n\n\nDrivers with two SOLO events on record at Pacific Raceways and substantial track experience may be considered Advanced. \n\n\n\nLow IntermediateWe will have a dedicated Low Intermediate run group for drivers who have limited experience on a road course but have been previously checked off as a “SOLO Driver” with NWARC or another recognized club or organization at Pacific Raceways in the last 24 months. If you have just recently gotten solo sign off at Pacific or feel as though you need a refresher on Pacific Raceways this is the group for you. If you are unsure of your solo status please contact the Event Registrar.  For those in need of a bit of instruction\, instructors will be available on-site but will only be available for in-car instruction at the instructors discretion. No passengers allowed except designated instructors. \n\n\n\nChanges in run group classification are the discretion of the Event Registrar. \n\n\n\nNumbersAs there will likely be street cars\, track cars and full race cars on the track at any time we will be assigning numbers at registration. Number selection is at random so please don’t expect to get your preferred number or use the numbers already on your car. You will be given a number decal to apply to the upper area of your windshield. This will be the only number the workers will use to reference your car throughout the day. \n\n\n\nHelmets and eye protection are required for all drivers. A number of Rental helmets will be available for this event. Rental helmets are $20 for the duration of the event. Go to the NWARC Track Events website and check out more information about these types of events: http://nwalfaclub.com/track/track-info.html \n\n\n\nIf you have questions about any needed service to your vehicle in preparation for this event please visit one of our local partner shops. Motorcycle helmets are not allowed. You can rent a helmet on the registration form. \n\n\n\nSafety Inspection Policy:\n\n\n\nFor every event\, ACNW requires two (2) signatures on your Vehicle Safety Inspection Checklist form. Please bring a signed paper copy of your Safety Inspection Checklist (form here) to the registration table on the morning of the event. \n\n\n\n\nThe signature at the bottom is yours. It is your car\, and we need you to take responsibility for its safe condition and operation.\n\n\n\nIt is ACNW’s expectation that your car will be inspected per the areas of emphasis on the Vehicle Safety Inspection Checklist form. This should be a dealer\, a local automotive shop\, or any other person you believe has the technical knowledge and experience to thoroughly inspect your car for safety. Ultimately\, it is your responsibility to confirm that your car is safe to operate at the event\, and ACNW strongly encourages you to be honest about your own mechanical abilities/knowledge. Should you feel capable and confident in inspecting your own vehicle\, it is permissible for the second “Inspected by” signature to be your own.\n\n\n\nView the entire Safety Inspection Policy and Procedure here.\n\n\n\n\nConvertibles:\n\n\n\nConvertibles lacking rollover protection are not permitted in ACNA High Performance Driving Schools (HPDE\, lapping\, or any events held “at speed”). Convertibles with factory-installed rollover protection (either fixed or deployable) meet the ACNA minimum requirement for high-speed events and are acceptable\, subject to approval by chapter leadership and event staff. We strongly recommend driving with the soft-top up or the hard top installed; otherwise\, SFI and/or FIA approved arm restraint system(s) must be used. \n\n\n\nHigh Center of Gravity Vehicles:\n\n\n\nHigh center of gravity vehicles (truck\, van\, SUV-Sport Utility Vehicle\, CUV-Crossover Utility Vehicle\, SAV-Sport Activity Vehicle) are not permitted in Audi Club Driving School events held “at speed” (DE-Driver Education\, HPDE\, instructed or non-instructed lapping\, track days)\, except those models included in the ACNA Vehicle Participation Exception List. \n\n\n\nAudi Club North America policies for convertibles and high center of gravity vehicles are posted on the ACNW’s Driving School Materials page under ACNA Driving School and Event Guidelines for your review. \n\n\n\nContact us: \n\n\n\n\nACNW Event Registrar: Alex Vollmer\n\n\n\nACNW Event Organizer: Todd Nicholson\, Darren Cheung\n\n\n\nACNW Chief Driving Instructor: David Kelley\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Now

SUMMARY:NW Alfa Romeo Club
DESCRIPTION:Driver Skills/Car Control Clinic & HPDE Lapping\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Northwest Alfa Romeo Club has been providing fun and informative Driver Skills and Car Control events to sport driving enthusiasts and daily/commuter drivers alike in the Northwest for over 20 years. This event combines a driving school for enhancing driver skills and teaching car control/safety with driving exercises in the morning with a separate HPDE / School event for both the morning students who want track experience as well as experienced drivers in the afternoon. These two programs will take place at Pacific Raceways in Kent on Saturday March 28th\, 2026. The curriculum for the Car Control/Driver Skills course is designed for all drivers in any type of vehicle\, and is proven to be particularly valuable for new and teen drivers\, drivers with newly purchased vehicles\, and any driver who feels unsure or nervous behind the wheel. The course is as fun as it is informative\, so we welcome and encourage any/all drivers who would like to experience something new. Registrants must hold a valid Driver License\, and teen drivers with a valid Learner Permit are also welcome… and encouraged! \n\n\n\nMorning Car Control Clinic: 8:00am – 11:30am  $150/ driver***Special Student Price***      $95/ driver – high school studentsAfternoon HPDE/Lapping:12:30pm – 5:00pm  $250/ driverMorning Car Control & Afternoon Lapping School:  8:00am – 5:00pm    $350/ driver includes lunch\n\n\n\nINTRODUCTION\n\n\n\nThe purpose of our Driving School is to enhance your awareness of the conditions around you and develop your ability to respond quickly and properly should you find yourself in an acute situation during your normal daily driving. \n\n\n\nNWARC’s Driver Skills event is a half-day course covering the fundamentals of car control and skills-based driving. Appropriate for new and experienced drivers alike\, this Driver Skills course provides all participants with valuable classroom instruction\, lots of seat time\, and personalized 1:1 in-car instruction if needed. The course is divided into six primary segments: \n\n\n\n\nHandling Oval\n\n\n\nSlalom\n\n\n\nThreshold Braking (Panic Stop)\n\n\n\nLane Change/Collision Avoidance \n\n\n\nBraking in a Corner\n\n\n\nSkidpad\n\n\n\n\nTogether\, these segments improve drivers’ ability to look ahead\, control vehicle weight transfer\, practice smoothness\, effective braking\, and other vital skills. Groups are small in size\, which means that wait times between exercises will be minimal. At the end of the five sessions\, students are encouraged to apply the skills they’ve learned to their daily driving routine\, and to practice safe and confident driving whenever they are behind the wheel. The intensity level and focus on driving is high\, but so is the fun factor!  \n\n\n\nALL VEHICLE TYPES ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED. Please be sure your vehicle is in good mechanical condition with no visible fluid leaks or loose parts hanging from exterior or underneath the vehicle. Check your tire wear and tire pressures the day before the event\, check engine oil and coolant levels\, and fill if necessary. All vehicles will be subjected to a basic technical inspection in the morning before being allowed on course. Please remove all loose items from the interior and trunk of your vehicle prior to arriving\, and don’t forget to fill your fuel tank BEFORE arriving. Fuel on site is very expensive. \n\n\n\nWHAT YOU WILL LEARN\n\n\n\nThe Driving School is designed to teach students that the act of driving a motor vehicle is an intensive mental activity. You must pay strict attention to your actions and those of the drivers around you. Through classroom and in-car instruction\, you are taught how to be observant of your surroundings and vehicle. You learn how and why a car will respond to inputs to the steering wheel\, gas pedal and brake pedal – the physics of car control. The school provides a way to prepare for the unexpected\, and to practice collision avoidance skills. \n\n\n\nYour registration fee provides you with a temporary 1-day “event membership” to NWARC in addition to participation in the Driver Skills Course\, or you are welcome to to join the Club with an annual membership here: https://www.aroc-usa.org/membership/ \n\n\n\nEvent requirements\n\n\n\n**CONVERTIBLES** Please read carefuly as this is a change in NWARC policy; Convertibles MUST have aftermarket roll protection. \n\n\n\nThe morning Car Control Clinic is open to all drivers with a valid Driver License and teens with a Learner Permit. No other driving experience or prerequisites are required. Invite your teenage* children\, parents\, friends/neighbors or coworkers to experience the art and skill of advanced car control. \n\n\n\nThe afternoon HPDE/School event has two run groups.Group A is reserved for Advanced drivers and participating instructors. Group B is open to Novice drivers over 18 years old who have participated in the morning car control clinic. There is a combo registration for both courses which includes lunch. All drivers for AM and PM events must have a valid WA Drivers License (must show original at check-in) and proper driver safety gear (helmet rental is available). \n\n\n\nAdvanced groups must have solo sign off and significant A Group experience on record through MSR at Pacific Raceways. If you have any questions regarding eligibility please contact the event registrar. \n\n\n\n*NOTE: Car control clinic students under the age of 16 must have a valid Learner’s Permit and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian (not required to be in car during exercises but MUST remain on site). \n\n\n\nPlease be sure to check your insurance policy to make sure “driver schools” or “track events” are not prohibited. \n\n\n\nMore on the driving school curriculum… \n\n\n\nOnline SchoolClass begins with a Zoom meeting the Thursday before the event. This meeting replaces our traditional classroom and gives you more time for excercises on the school day. The meeting will cover vehicle control\, braking\, cornering as well as the in-car exercises that will be conducted. There will be a discussion of each in-car exercise so that you understand what skills they are designed to teach and how best to perform them. The meeting will be recorded for those who can’t attend. We urge you to attend in case you have questions.Driving ExercisesExercise segments have been designed to allow you to physically experience the vehicle dynamics theory explained in the classroom. Using orange traffic cones\, exercises are laid out on the pavement for you to negotiate. An experienced instructor will ride with you to explain the exercise\, offer corrections\, praise accomplishment and answer questions immediately. With this real-time feedback\, learning is enhanced. The exercise segments are laid out with safety buffer zones around them to provide a large margin of error\, keeping you safe and eliminating the risk of any incidents. The exercise area is isolated in order to prohibit access by non-school participants. The meeting curriculum and driving skills exercises will emphasize these important daily driving rules\, techniques\, and habits: \n\n\n\n\nSmart steering wheel control\, keeping your hands should be at the 9 and 3 o’clock positions. This provides you with the greatest control over your car and keeps your arms out of the way in case of airbag deployment.\n\n\n\nSetting and using your side view mirrors so very little to none of the side of your car is visible. This allows you to have a widest possible view of what is behind and to the side of your car.\n\n\n\nLooking ahead to improve your peripheral vision. Generally look to the second or third vehicle ahead of you so you can get a bigger picture of what is happening ahead of time.\n\n\n\nDriving with your seat correctly positioned. To test if you are seated correctly do the following: Sit up straight in the driver seat. Your shoulders should be touching the seat back. Next\, extend your arms straight out in front of you\, your wrists should touch the top rim of the steering wheel and hands able to hang over the front. Adjust your seat until you can accomplish this position easily. \n\n\n\nPracticing courteous driving habits while becoming more aware of everything around you. Develop your positive communicative skills by signaling ahead of time and practice the ‘3 second’ safe distance maneuver while following vehicles ahead of you on the road.\n\n\n\nPracticing smooth movements while turning\, braking and applying throttle (gas pedal).\n\n\n\nAvoiding downshifting and using the gearbox to slow your car. Always use your brakes\, that’s what they are designed to do.\n\n\n\nPracticing smooth braking by “imagining an egg” between your foot and the brake pedal. If you press too hard too quickly the egg will break.\n\n\n\n\nRegistering for the course In order to register for either of these two events here on Motorsportreg\, you’ll need to create a simple driver account and profile. This is a quick and simple process. However\, there will be a series of detailed questions related to your vehicle including engine size and class\, and other questions about your “permanent number.” Please disregard all of these detailed questions\, you’ll only need to provide “Make\,” “Model\,” and “Color” which are the first few questions. After filling in those answers just skip to the bottom and continue the registration process. If you have any questions or problems with this form\, please do not hesitate to contact the event registrar. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister Now
