Plenty on the line at High School Drags
There will be a lot at stake for racers at the 52nd Annual Cornwell Tools All High School Drags on Saturday, May 7. For starters, the winner will collect the coveted 1st Place Trophy complete with bragging rights.
But it doesn’t end there.
Cornwell Tools, the presenting sponsor of the race, will be awarding a full tool set and rolling tool cart valued at $2,699 to the high school winner. In addition, associate sponsor Green River College will award scholarships to the Auburn community college to the winner ($1,500) runner-up ($1,000) and semi-finalist ($500). The high school drags champ will also get to race one of the stars of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series at the Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals on July 30th. The school with the most round wins from their high school racers will also receive a special trophy for their trophy case.
An alumni class, designed for young adults 25 years and under, will also compete with the winner receiving a tool set and rolling tool cart from Cornwell Tools. One of the most exciting competitions at high school drags is the burnout contest, which is open to the first 20 entries. This year’s burnout contest is sponsored by Green River College.
New for 2022 will be a battle of the bands. Pacific Raceways is looking for six bands to compete in the upper pits during the event with the winning band receiving a battle of the bands trophy. Bands must come with their own amps and sound system. Interested bands need to contact the raceways’ office at (253) 639-5927.
The car and driver entry fee for high school drags is $50. Spectator entry at the gate is $15 or $10 if you buy in advance. The burnout contest entry is $25 and needs to be purchased online to secure one of the limited spots. Tickets can be purchased here.
Students who want to compete and are under 18 years old, must have a signed parent waiver. You can download the waiver here.
Gates for high school drags open at 10 a.m.
